If you have a Google Meet scheduled with SafariBookings you will need to check that your camera and microphone are in working order. This will save time and allow us to address your concerns with more ease.
How to check your audio and video before the meeting
After you click on the Google Meet link, you will be taken to the Google Meet ‘waiting area’. This can be accessed as soon as you have the link (even days before when the meeting is scheduled).
In the bottom left corner of the screen, you will see 3 buttons, labeled 'Microphone', 'Speakers‘, and one referring to your camera. Click on the one labeled 'Speakers'.
You will now see a new menu pop-up. From here you should test your speakers to ensure you can hear the other guests. To do this, click on ‘Test Speakers’ at the bottom of the menu. You should hear a short jingle. If you do not, troubleshoot this before joining the meeting.
If your speakers are working properly, close the menu and click on 'Microphone'.
This step will require you to speak into your microphone. If your microphone is picking up your voice, you will see the blue bar move when you speak.
If the microphone is not picking up your voice (i.e. the bar is not moving), then choose a different microphone from the list and try again.
If the blue bar is moving, then your microphone is working properly. Then close the menu, and click on your webcam to test your camera.
Click 'Make a test recording' in the menu that pops up
This will record your camera and microphone as you speak to make sure everything is set up correctly. Click on 'Start test' when you are ready.
After you’ve completed this step, you’ll receive some results. If your wifi connection, camera, speaker, and microphone are in working order, you’ll receive a list of green symbols. If something isn’t working, the symbol will be red/orange (such as the camera symbol in the image below).
Then click the play button centered at the bottom of the menu. This will allow you to see and hear the quality of your video.
If your camera, microphone, or speaker symbol is red, click on the symbol.
Then click on the drop-down menu to see your options. If there is an alternate option, click on that and run the test again by clicking ‘check again’ on the bottom right.
Ensure that your diagnostics test is healthy for all equipment before joining the meeting.
