Beware of Phishing Emails

  • Updated

In this article, we want to raise awareness of the dangers of phishing emails and offer tips on protecting yourself from falling victim to them. Online scams, particularly phishing emails, have become increasingly common and advanced in recent years. SafariBookings has also been targeted by such attacks, and we want to ensure that you are aware of these and know how to protect yourself.

What are phishing emails?

Phishing is an online scam whereby cybercriminals create fake emails, websites, text messages or even quote requests to trick you into giving them your personal information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details. Alternatively, they might trick you into clicking a link that can install harmful software on your device. If the scammers gain access to your personal accounts, this can cause not only a serious privacy breach but also significant financial harm.

How to recognize phishing

While we cannot protect you from receiving phishing emails, we can help you avoid falling victim to them. Please check the following when you’re not sure if an email is legitimate:

  1.  SafariBookings staff will never ask for your password or login information. Account settings can always be found and changed in the Tour Operator Admin.
  2. Double-check the sender’s email address – we only ever send you emails from our @safaribookings.com address.

  3. When you click any link, genuine SafariBookings operator admin pages will always have 'operators.safaribookings.com' included in the URL:

Never submit your personal or login details if the SafariBookings website does not start with this URL.

  4. Log in to the Tour Operator Admin to verify whether a request is real. Your data on our website is always up-to-date.
  5. Use a reputable email provider. We recommend Gmail or Microsoft Outlook. These clients will warn you when they detect potentially harmful links in emails.

  6. Please keep in mind that fake emails can look very real. If you ever doubt the source of the email, contact us immediately.
